20 Things

Peyton is turning 2 in UNDER a month.  I was going to make him a book that has his favorite things at 2 in it...since he LOVES books and pictures - so this will be a very simple scrapbook type book that I won't stress when he wants to play with it or look at it.  I also think this is something that he will love looking at everyday.

So - what are the 20 things.

A few things that I know will be on the list:

Raisins

Coloring

Books

And other things like a picture of Mommy and Daddy, Blocks, Mickey Mouse, his 'Car', Puzzles, and whatever else I figure out and have a picture of or take a picture of before then...

Van drama is over

If you have been reading, you know that we found out about a month ago that the van we bought back in Feb had been wrecked.  We traded it today on this:

It is very nice.  Same exact van that we had, except it is 2 years newer, a pretty blue color (our van was white), only has 5 miles on it (when we drove it off the lot) and it has NEVER been wrecked.  Oh, and we splurged and spent about 1,200 more to get the DVD and Rear Alert Backing system.  Our payments are almost exactly the same, but we did have to extend the time period of the loan and add 1.5 years onto it.  BUT - I have peace of mind, and we have made a promise to each other (E and I) that we are going to drive it for at least 200,000 miles.  Oh, and this van has DUAL sliding automatic doors - mine only had one automatic door.

One thing that I wish it had was alloys - but hey - I can deal with the wheel covers!  Just don't hit a pot hole because those things cost about $100 each!

And one last picture.  I took this while sitting on the 3rd row.  You can't see the flip down DVD player - but it is just out of the shot...

Most of all - I'm thankful (I've already said this) that the drama is OVER.  But also that the dealership gave us a great deal and honored the fact that they should have never let the other van off the lot being in the condition that it was in (bent axle from previous wreck, no spare tire, etc).  We could have never done the trade if they wouldn't have given us TOP dollar on our trade, and they did.  Which was what they should have done, but you never know if people are going to do what is right or not. We both prayed a lot about this over the last month while our van was in the shop, and we feel that is what helped everything go so smooth today.

One more thing

I started Weight Watchers today!  That was supposed to be my Mother's day present to myself, but then I broke my arm on Mother's day weekend - so I'm just now getting around to it.  I'm contemplating doing the flex plan (points) or core plan (where you eat as much of certain foods as you want).  I think they both have plus sides.  Of course, today when i finally get around to joining - the instructor wasn't there.  So - I didn't get any guidance at my first meeting - I have to wait until next week.  I should have left and said i would come back for the next meeting, but i was so excited that I really wanted to get going.  I really hope this will be the motivation that I need to get this last 15-20 pounds GONE.  Oh, and get this, my 10% goal weight is 18 pounds!  Which will put me almost exactly where I want to be!!!!  Go Nat, you can do it, Go me...(that is my pep talking to myself, corny I know)...

Swing set

I have been planning on getting Peyton a swing set for his birthday for a while.  At first, we were going to get a nice wooden one that we knew would last for  years, but OH MY, have you ever priced one.  The base models start at around $500ish and go WAY up from there.  You can get a model in the $350 range from walmart but it didn't have the greatest reviews.

So, we decided just to get a old fashioned metal swing set that is much like the one I had when I was growing up.  I found one at Walmart for $119, and another at Kmart for around the same price.  And we have the money saved - but I have already bought him plenty of things for his birthday and Christmas and I'm having to tell myself NO MORE STUFF.  Now, granted - half of it is 2nd hand stuff that I have bought at consignment sales, but that is fine!  I really scored at the sale that I participated in a few weeks ago - and I've been collecting books all year and Target toys on discount as well.  Point is, he has plenty already.

So - I'm thinking of waiting until taxes come back this spring (In Feb, I do taxes ASAP).  Not sure.  I hate to give him so many things all at once.  Lots for his birthday in Oct - then Christmas.  But then I don't know if we should get the swing set so he can enjoy it all winter, when you can actually go outside in Georgia!  Ugh.  I am happy with our decision to get a cheaper model though, and he will have tons of fun on it for a few years regardless.  We were thinking of building him a custom fort in one of our large trees in the back yard instead of doing the expensive swing set anyway.  And you can move the metal swing set when mowing the grass!  Another plus!

I guess this post turned into a ramble...

Fireproof

I hope my church does a short series on this.  I'm excited to see the movie.  It was done by the same church that produced the movie 'Facing the Giants' - which just happens to be a church that my cousins (well, Eric's cousins really) children attend school at.  I think I might look into ordering some of the resources that go along with it.  Not sure yet.  Oh, and Kirk Cameron is the lead in the movie.  He was also in the Left Behind movies.
