Light Bulb

I had a revelation today! A big one. I haven’t gotten on the scale since Tuesday because honestly I was scared to see what it said! And today I finally did it, AFTER eating breakfast…and I’m down 1 lb since Tuesday. So a total of 7 lbs (maybe even 7.2). I reweigh'd myself about 10 times, just didn’t believe it. And that was after eating breakfast too!

Then while taking my bath it hit me –  I was having a really hard time the week of/weekend before my surgery. And I was actually eating pretty decent BUT I was not seeing the scale move at all. I was trying not to beat myself up, but I was maybe a little. Anyway, my cycle came on Tuesday and I have very long heavy cycles – so light bulb goes off – I might have actually been losing weight, but you couldn’t see it on the scale b/c my body was retaining so much fluid, and over this week it lost most of it, so now maybe I’m back to a more accurate reading. Does that make sense? I need to recognize these things, and not beat myself up over not seeing the scale move for a day or two (or week for that matter).

I can’t live by the scale. But that is so very hard. But I think I have said it before, ‘weight loss or not – I'm making better choices that are good for me and my family, and getting healthy is just as good as the weight loss’ – of course, weight loss is the reward for doing better.

Ok…I’m about to finish packing and head off for our night away! this is the first night away from Peyton since he was born (except for the night I was at Emory for my shoulder surgery – but that doesn’t count!)…we will be in ATL tonight - going to my Grandma's 'Atlanta Country Music Hall of Fame' induction ceremony and then saying the night and going to the Falcon's game tomorrow.  :)

This is a picture of my whiteboard at work. I tried to keep everything in perspecitve this month by listing things I am thankful for. I can now carry my cell phone and camera inside the building, so I've gotten my older Sony Cybershot and I'm carrying it around in my purse now. This was a picture of my board a few days ago. I actually combined #8 and #9, then for #9 put freedom/the troops - but forgot to take another picture.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Egh

Ok, I don't think I have even blogged yet about having surgery.  the same surgery that i had before i finally got pregnant with Peyton.  well i'm having horrible cycles and lots of pain, that along with a tilted uterus, and i was going to have surgery again. it was scheduled for tomorrow, with prep today.  well, the doctors office calls at 1pm - the doctor is sick and he can't do the surgery tomorrow.  GREAT.  Just Great.  I mean, I thought I was going to be having the surgery tomorrow, recovering this week, meeting with him next week about starting clomid, metaformin, or something to make me ovulate.

Oh - I also discovered last week that in addition to the endometriosis, i also have something called pelvic varicosity and PCOS (poly-cystic ovarian syndrome).  I had a feeling I had the PCOS.  Wasn't sure about the other, i figured all my pain was from the endometriosis.  Well they can't fix the pelvic varicosity (like they can with the endometriosis) because it is too dangerous - especially when i want to have another baby.  after i have another baby, i'll probably just have a hysterectomy.

I was worried, that maybe just maybe i'm pregnant - but that it was too soon to tell and i was going to request a blood test before the surgery - now i don't have to stress that.  i mean, i don't really know WHY i would think i was pregnant - but I did get a positive OPT this month - which is huge!!!

I'm still ready to get this surgery DONE and be on my way to getting pregnant...still praying for that baby!

Down 6 lbs

Ok, I'm still on cloud 9 -down 6 lbs since Oct 25th.  I've been journaling everything I eat, to help me keep track and maybe see where I go wrong.  My sugar cravings are getting much better, if not almost completely gone.  I haven't had a Dr. pepper in over a week - that is the longest i've gone in a LONG time.  I'm also tracking how much I walk.  After tracking my average miles per day - wearing my pedometer for a few days w/o walking extra - the average was around 4-6miles per day.  So I've been trying to make it 7-8 miles a day as a goal to shoot for daily.

This has been the best start to a diet that I have had in a long time.  AND I'm really feeling like this time is going to be different!!!  Don't want to jinx myself though, but it feels really good.

Food Journal (as of Friday Nov 6th)

Friday (Down 6.2 lbs)

Smoothie, 2 boiled eggs (egg whites only), low fat latte

Thanksgiving Dinner for lunch, with desert Dinner - Grits and a banana Snacks - dried fruit 100 cal pack

YUMMMMMMY

I got this recipe last week, and I knew I wanted to try it b/c it is a smoothie with orange juice.

Smoothie Recipe

1 cup orange juice (I use light OJ, with 50% less sugar)

1 cup reduced-calorie strawberry banana yogurt (I used plain strawberry)

1 medium banana

1 cup no sugar added strawberries (I used frozen mixed berries)

2-3 packets of splenda (I didn’t have this, so I didn’t use it, and i think it was fine).

It was REALLY good!!!! I love the different taste the OJ gives the smoothie. I’m sure we could change it up a bit to use our favorite fruits – or whatever we have on hand. This made about 8 cups – which I split up into 2 servings. YUMMMMMMMY

1.27 miles

1.27 Miles, that is  how many miles I walked while making laps around my backyard while Peyton was playing in the sand!  Not too bad, considering I usually just sit and read during that time.  One more step to getting healthy.

Oh, and I was down 2.4 lbs from last Monday this AM.  I'm really feeling motivated!  Lets keep this ball rolling........

Holidays in Hand

Craft Hope

Remember this quilt I started - like 5-6 years ago.  Well, it is on it's way to craft hope - which is working on Project #5 and getting quilts into the hands of all the homeless children in the Michigan area.  More on craft hope project #5 here:

http://crafthope.com/2009/10/project-5-margarets-hope-chest/

I made it

31 days, 31 layouts!!! This was really alot of fun, some days I did want to quit - when i just wasn't in the mood, but I'm so glad I stuck with it. Might even try to keep it going for a while.

Trying to be positive

I posted this post in January - http://whiteconvertible.blogspot.com/2009/01/weigh-in-week-2.html

Which was my weigh in at that point.  I was at 196 - still under my dreaded 200lb marker.  Something about being over 200 just makes me sick!  Well, after all my yo-yo dieting this year, I'm over 200 again.

My goal for Nov, 8 lbs.  Sad thing, even if I lose 8lbs in Nov I will still be over 200.  And this month will be more difficult, because my birthday is this month AND Thanksgiving, but I going to try!

I did lose approximately 2 lbs last week though, lets see if we can keep this ball rolling in the correct down-hill motion!

Today is week 1 of the official diet again, last week was just a half trial week, as I had to still go to the grocery store and stock up on healthy foods.

This time, I'm not focusing on a diet though.  First Place calls it a LIVE-it (instead of DIE-IT).  So I'm going to take that to heart and try to just keep this ball rolling for more than the 2 weeks that I normally stay focused.  I'm going to WALK or do the Bowflex daily!  And I'm not going to stress if I fall off, I'm going to try to get back on immediately.  Because you know what, that is one thing that would really hurt me before - I'd slip up and have one bad thing, which would lead to another bad thing and then another, and before you knew it, it had been days since following my 'plan'.

So here's to LIVE-it - Week 1.
